I performed a solo 28 times in a row
I’ve been working with Ben Levine on his performance projects since 2013 when I did a series of dances in more places in a theater than I thought possible - swinging from the grid on a rope, on the top of a 50 foot ladder, on a impromptu land-roving raft. The list goes on.
In his new, excellently named project, I made this dance and nobody cares but you, I perform a one-minute solo timed in tandem with my 3D projected twin for one person at a time. Over three hours, I get to do the dance 28 times, creating a strange, illusory suspended animation. A durational performance that transpires for only me, a fleeting encounter for one audience member in a series of many. We workshopped the entire work recently at Anacostia Arts Center and will premiere the full version at Dance Place in September. I can’t wait to repeat this special solo - and repeat, and repeat, and repeat.
